This morning, I was totally shocked when I opened my browser. It all started with a notification saying “new user followed you,” leading to my surprise with my favorite platform, Medium.

Why Medium?

A few years ago, I started writing my first article on my own website (mtalkblog.com), but I felt like I needed another place to write more freely. I looked for references on social media and the internet: try Quora, make a new blog on Blogspot, or try WordPress, Wix is also good. There was just too much information out there.

Then, there was this influencer sharing their experience writing on Medium. I remembered I had installed Medium on my phone before, but I uninstalled it because I was a bit annoyed that some articles required a subscription. But I installed it again, not the official Medium app, but Medium Mod, where I could read premium content. However, not long after, I lost access because my smartphone broke.

Don’t follow this example, don’t use unofficial apps, it’s dangerous.

That’s how I first got to know Medium, kind of silly, I think. Eventually, I decided to try logging back into Medium and start writing. My first piece was titled “Tips for Optimizing PC Performance.” If you look at my posts on Medium, they’re pretty random.

Medium is Full of Surprises

I was really surprised by the new breakthrough from Medium as a writing platform. I understand Medium is a free platform for everyone, regardless of race, religion, or gender. I get that “Medium is a free platform,” so I wasn’t surprised to find some content I personally disagree with, like LGBTQ stuff. I don’t really like such things, but I’m not the type to judge just because I don’t like it. Let them be, and I’ll just limit my access to “their content.”

We can’t change the wind, but we can adjust our sails.

But this morning, I was really shocked by, I don’t know what this is, I don’t understand what Medium is trying to do by changing its homepage logo to a rainbow Medium 🌈. I felt like, ahh, and wondered, why the rainbow? I just assumed, “oh, this must be LGBTQ-related.” But why change the homepage logo to this?

I think everyone knows that Medium is a platform open to anyone. What do you think? Is this necessary?

I understand everyone has different genders, if they just want to support people with such thoughts, I think Medium has already provided an elegant space for them.

Is it necessary to announce that LGBTQ exists? You know everyone already knows this group exists! So, is it about normalizing this group? Do you realize this could be a health threat to them?

So, is this a form of humanity? For an LGBTQ person, maybe yes, but I see it as “Short-Term Humanity.” As a normal person, this threatens the younger generations’ mental and physical health.
